The Courtyard pre-school play rooms are location in the purpose built extension to the main house; the Courtyard was built in 2004 after high demand for the setting. The highly qualified, dedicated, friendly team care for children 3-5years with a ratio 1 adult to 8 children.
The Courtyard is a spacious and welcoming play environment with wonderful resources offering the children plenty of opportunities for stimulating learning, development and interaction. The playrooms are kept clean freshly decorated and are divided into 2 main play rooms; the pre-school and art area are in one large room and a second room is dedicated to fantasy and role play. The staff move appropriately to the children’s needs enabling them to move freely between each room and outside, which encourages them as self-learners through play.
During the day there is a combination of adult led activities and child initiated play opportunities. The staff ensure the children have opportunities to extend their learning through role play, outside play, creative and tactile activities; all children are encouraged and praised while trying new experiences and challenges.
The Courtyard has its own garden fully equipped with a large climbing frame and slide, swing set; fully enclose trampoline, a sand pit and a children play house. The children play outside daily and in all weathers, exploring, investigating and having fun in their surroundings. The children enjoy playing on the slides, swings, having races, building castles in the sand and taking an active role in investigating mini beasts and caring for our bird feeding station.
The children also have use of the 3 other outside areas:
- The wild garden- planting vegetable and flowers, watching them grow and caring for them.
- The Courtyard- scooting around on the trike and riding bikes in the courtyard and playing large circle games.
- The low level balance garden- Developing balancing skills and coordination, using a range of natural climbing apparatus.
The children also have use of the Kindergarten mini bus, giving them opportunities to be on our swimming programme and to visit the library, nature parks, shops, and the pantomime at Christmas and to attend local schools for performances, plays and teddy bear picnics.
We also have our own children Christmas party, a performance for our parents and a annual summer outing and garden party; giving parents an opportunity to meet social and extend a goodbye to our school leavers.
